Thomas Fire and Mudslide Victims

What we are doing

John T. Richards, APLC is aggressively pursuing cases against Southern California Edison Company and Montecito Water District for damages caused by the Thomas Fire and subsequent Montecito/Carpinteria Mudslides.

Why we are doing it

Through our experience handling WILDFIRE litigation in the 2007 Witch Creek Fire (San Diego) and the 2003 Cedar Creek Fire (San Diego) against San Diego Gas & Electric we have honed our skills holding utilities financially responsible for the damages to your home and property.

Events Timeline

We intend to prove that on December 4, 2017, at approximately 6:28 p.m., the Thomas Fires’ initial point of origin was Anlauf Canyon Road, north of Santa Paula, California. The secondary point of origin was a transformer on Keonigsten Road, Santa Paula. These fires ultimately caused the horrific and deadly mudslides in Montecito and Carpinteria in January 8th and 9th, 2018.

We will

We will recover damages based on the non-delegable duty of Southern California Edison to properly construct, inspect, maintain, repair, manages and otherwise operate its electrical power lines, transformers, and equipment and keep trees properly trimmed at a safe distance to prevent foreseeable fires.

You get

Your damages including, all costs to put your structure back to its pre-loss condition, the replacement cost of your personal property, damage to landscaping and trees, damage to commercial agriculture, damage to trees and vegetation growing naturally on your land, erosion control costs to vacant land and your emotional distress.

Your cost

We are handling cases with no fees until and unless we recover compensation for you. We are covering all costs.

Uninsured or underinsured?

For people who have no insurance or insurance that did not cover their loss, we will recover damages to compensate you for your total loss. For people who have insurance, we have found historically you are massively under insured. Your damages will exceed your policy limits by hundreds of thousands of dollars. We will recover the difference between what you collect and your actual damages.
