Blalock v. Otay Water District | December 2017.

Jury verdict for Plaintiffs against Otay Water District when water from a fresh main water-line exploded outside of plaintiffs home, destroying their house and koi farm. It was proven that OTW, a govnermental agency, "took" plaintiffs land by allowing water from the exploding water geyser to invade their land and destroy their property.

Mass Tort Mudslide Against Utility Company

Luth et al., v. San Diego Gas & Electric et ., SDCN 37-2016-0002347-CU-PO-CTL

Richards, APLC again is leading the charge in mudslide litigation caused by utilities, governmental entities, and homeowners associations failure to properly grade access roads, institute erosion control measures, build proper de-silting basins and velocity dampeners as a result of the threat of Wildfires in California back country.

Mass Tort Wildfire Litigation Fire

Witch Creek and Guijto Fires│2013

John T. Richards, APLC represented dozens of Plaintiffs to confidential settlements. As reported by the San Diego Union Tribune, the Witch Creek fire began in the early afternoon of October 21, 2007, when sparking power lines ignited brush in a remote area southwest of Santa Ysabel during fierce Santa Ana winds that lasted for days. The Guejito fire began about 12 hours later in the San Pasqual Valley, also caused by sparking power lines, according to investigators, and eventually merged with the Witch Creek blaze. Early in the morning of Oct. 22 those fires burned into Rancho Bernardo. San Diego Gas & Electric Insurance payments of $1.1 billion have been exhausted.

SDG&E has estimated remaining fire and litigation costs associated with the 2007 fires at $603 million, in a recent filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. That tally fluctuates based on legal settlements.

John T. Richards, APLC was retained by a United States Bankruptcy Trustee to recover proceeds on behalf of a bankruptcy estate. In a case settled prior to litigation, John T. Richards, APLC negotiated a $1,100,000.00 settlement which greatly benefited the bankruptcy estate and debtors.

James Russell Collins v. Union Pacific railroad | Jul 11, 2012

The case went to the California Supreme Court on the issue of whether the FELA could be applied to a non-railroad employee under the borrowed servant doctrine.  The Supreme Court agreed that it could.
